14 dead, 31 hurt in Mt. Province bus accident

Fourteen people were killed and 31 others were wounded after a bus fell into a ravine in Bontoc, Mountain Province.

The police in Mountain Province said the Florida bus fell off a sharp curve along Halsema Highway in Barangay Talubin while en route to Bontoc from Manila.

Rescuers immediately brought the victims to Bontoc General Hospital.

Northern Luzon Command sources indicated that, among the dead are a Dutch and a Canadian national.

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Cordillera Regional Office said that initial reports indicated the bus' brakes malfunctioned, leading to the mishap.

The DOTC adds the bus company's franchise will be suspended pending an investigation.
